Seemingly superhuman athlete Michael Phelps has set a record for Olympic gold medals, winning 23 at just 32 years old. Phelps, who retired from competitive swimming in 2016, did so as the winner of a greater number of medals than 161 nation states. He is as much a celebrity marketing vehicle as he has been an athlete, with dozens of lucrative endorsement contracts. As of 2019, his assets were estimated at $60 million, a sum that has allowed the swimmer to settle down in comfort in a 6,000-square-foot mansion in his adopted hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona.
