O Grupo Silvio Santos, que ele fundou, hoje está a frente de mais de 30 empresas e tem um faturamento de US$ 2 bilhões por ano. Iniciou sua carreira por volta de 1940, ainda adolescente, quando trabalhava como camelô nas ruas do Rio de Janeiro.

Ele então contratou Silvio para trabalhar na estação de radio local. Com o surgimento da TV na década de 60, cada vez mais Silvio tornava-se uma celebridade da TV aberta.
