O Grupo Silvio Santos, que ele fundou, hoje está a frente de mais de 30 empresas e tem um faturamento de US$ 2 bilhões por ano. Iniciou sua carreira por volta de 1940, ainda adolescente, quando trabalhava como camelô nas ruas do Rio de Janeiro.
Foi um olheiro de rádio que percebeu a capacidade de Silvio Santos para vender praticamente tudo, até capas de plástico para identidades eleitorais. Ele então contratou Silvio para trabalhar na estação de radio local. Com o surgimento da TV na década de 60, cada vez mais Silvio tornava-se uma celebridade da TV aberta.
