16. End of an Era
This photo captures the moment the F14 Tomcat Fighter jet leaves from USS Theodore Roosevelt for the very last time. Put to retirement in 2006 in a ceremony held at NASA, this picture really does represent the end of an era for the US military.
The aircraft was one of many created during the Cold War, designed to fight against Russian MiG aircraft after Vietnam. It was retired in 2006 and made way for a whole range of next-generation fighter jets. All things must come to an end at some point in time!
