While visiting Poland in 1972, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro found time to play a few rounds of basketball with students in Krakow. Castro was a huge fan of the game, despite the fact that baseball was the national sport of his home country.
Castro claimed that basketball was very much like warfare – it required speed, agility, and tactical thinking. It turned out that he was a hugely competitive and competent sportsman in his youth and dedicated a lot of his time to playing table tennis, baseball, and racing in track and field events. His fitness then must be on point!
