47. Dummy Test
Everybody knows that the use of dummies is the preferred method of testing out dangerous stunts. But as this photo shows, sometimes, real people have to be used as well! The reason for this incredible shot was down to a revolutionary new invention: the crash helmet.
This jumping man was captured on camera back in 1912 and was proving the efficacy of crash helmets. Back in those days, helmets were made from layer upon layer of hardened leather, and prior to this, athletes wouldn’t have used any protection at all to prevent injuries. Ouch!
