Willy Wonka y la fábrica de chocolate fue su papel más emblemático, pero Gene realizó docenas de otras cosas más allá de la actuación (como la composición, producción, guiones, entre otras labores). Por desgracia, sufría de Alzheimer en sus últimos años, y como todos sabemos, esta es una enfermedad que no se puede curar, solamente es tratada a través de un tratamiento médico. La enfermedad le quitó la vida cuando tenía 83. Las nuevas generaciones lo conocen por la cara de uno de los memes más famosos de los últimos años.
