Terwijl Jim Carrey’s eigen leven soms meer op een tragikomedie leek dan op het bestaan van een komedie icoon, vervulde hij met verve zijn rol als vader voor zijn dochter. In 1987, na een rommelige romantiek met Melissa Womer, een serveerster met acteerambities, verwelkomde hij Jane Carrey in de wereld. In haar jeugd heeft Jane — erfgenaam van haar vaders iconische grimas — zowel voorspoed als tegenspoed gekend.
Met toegang tot financiële rijkdommen door de ster-status van haar vader, had Jane zich in luxe kunnen wentelen. Echter, met een sterke onafhankelijke geest wilde ze haar eigen pad bewandelen. Zo heeft deze jonge moeder gewerkt als serveerster en jaagt ze haar droom na in de muziekwereld.
