When Jason finally opened his door, I wasn’t prepared for what I saw. He brushed past me, suitcase in hand, his face set in anger. “Where are you going?” I asked, but he didn’t even look at me. “You’ve made a huge mistake!” he shouted, his voice echoing through the house as he barreled down the stairs.
Adam appeared, confused by the commotion, but before either of us could stop him, Jason was gone. I called his phone over and over, each unanswered ring tightening the knot in my chest. Where was he? Why wasn’t he answering? The silence was unbearable, filling every corner of the house with dread.
