Cassandra Peterson – Elvira Mistress of the Dark, born 1951
Cassandra Peterson started out as a small time Vegas showgirl at the tender age of 17 -but success awaited her really soon! After a conversation with Elvis Presley one night, Peterson decided to take him up on his advice to channel her talent into acting and singing in Europe. Peterson then moved to Hollywood, where the Elvira persona was born after she made a few movies. Elvira became a sensation with viewers throughout the country, and Peterson capitalized on her newly found success by making movies such as Elvira Mistress of the Dark and Elvira’s Haunted Hills. She also donated large amounts grossed from her movies to HIV/AIDS organizations and animal based charities.
