National Lampoon’s Vacation war jedoch der Film, der es ihm ermöglichte, echte Aufmerksamkeit vom Publikum zu bekommen. Danach spielte er im The Breakfast Club und Sixteen Candles. Dann zwangen ihn einige Alkoholprobleme, eine Pause von seiner Schauspielkarriere einzulegen. Heute kehrt er über Fernsehauftritte und Low-Budget-Filme langsam ins Rampenlicht zurück. The Dead Zone und The Dark Knight waren seine jüngsten Erfolge.
