225. Jim Varney – LUNG CANCER
Although Jim Varney had a varied career as a comedian and actor, his most recognizable role was that of Ernest, a character created for commercials. “Ernest” was such a hit that a series and a film franchise were based on him. This character’s portrayal earned him a Daytime Emmy. A long-time smoker, Varney didn’t quit smoking until it was too late. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1998, and although he ignored the disease for a while, he eventually went through chemotherapy. Unfortunately, it did not work, and he died in 2000.
