Rooney Mara did not joke around when she got her first leading role. For the portrayal of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Lisbeth Salander, the actress had to subject her body to tattoos and piercings (lip, nose, eyebrow). After the movie, she had a piercing removal but held on to one specific one. Luckily, the tattoos were not real, because a tattoo removal would not have been a walk in the park. Her performance in the movie received critical acclaim, earning her an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination.
