Peggy Dow was something else when she was young, and Universal Pictures didn’t think twice when it came to giving her a contract. She appeared in films like Harvey and Bright Victor. While she could have become a legend, she bid adieu to her showbiz career just after three years. In 1951, she married oil tycoon Walter Helmerich III and their union lasted for an impressive 60 years until his death in 2012. Dow used the inheritance from her husband’s estate to support various charitable causes involving libraries and other institutions of art and literature.
