Diva Mariah Carey sieht gerne perfekt aus, und sie pflegt seit Jahren ihr wunderschönes Aussehen. Doch sie opferte alles für eine Rolle im Film Precious. Sie änderte nicht nur ihre Haarfarbe von blond auf dunkelbraun, sondern gab auch das Make-up für die Rolle ganz auf. Carey selbst enthüllte später, dass das Spielen in einem Film ohne Make-up ihre größte Herausforderung war, aber sie musste doch den Anweisungen des Regisseurs folgen. Carey gab zu, dass Push, der ursprüngliche Romantitel aus der Feder von Sapphire, ihr Leben verändert hat. Deshalb machte es ihr nichts aus, so lange offen zu sein, wie sie an dem Filmprojekt beteiligt sein konnte, das das Buch zum Leben erweckte.
