Gervais träumte einst davon, der nächste große Popstar zu werden, aber das Scheitern seiner Gesangskarriere führte ihn nicht dazu, aufzugeben – sondern darüber zu lachen. Die Dinge liefen für ihn gut und er wurde ein Komiker mit seinem Ruhm, der höher aufstieg, als er in den Staaten ein Begriff wurde. Nachdem er 2011 eingeladen worden war, seine zweiten Golden Globes zu veranstalten, entschied er, dass er es satt hatte, ein “fetter, fauler und unförmiger Schlampe” zu sein, also begann er ein Gewichtsabnahmeprogramm, verlor rund 40 Pfund und arbeitet immer noch daran, das Gewicht fernzuhalten.
