Leto debütierte zuerst als Jordan Catalano in der Teenie-Seifenoper My So-Called Life, bevor er in Filmen wie American Psycho und Fight Club zu komplexeren Rollen überging. Jared tritt zusammen mit Bruder Shannon Leto auch in seiner eigenen Indie-Rock-Band 30 Seconds to Mars auf. Ab September 2014 hat der weltweite Umsatz für die Alben der Band mehr als 15 Millionen erreicht. Dank seines Erfolgs in der Filmindustrie und des Ticketverkaufs seiner Band hat Jared Leto ab 2018 rund 40 Millionen US-Dollar auf der Bank.
