Apesar de seu avô ser um comediante, Jason Patrick tem desempenhado papéis sérios, começando nos anos 80. Sua primeira parte do filme foi no filme de TV Toughlove em 1985. Ele passou a aparecer em filmes como The Lost Boys e The Beast. Apesar de ser popular nos anos 80, sua carreira diminuiu na década seguinte, influenciando uma mudança para a Broadway.
