即席めんのCMで話題になり、1984年歌手デビューしたアイドル出身の女優。1991年映画『戦争と青春』で日本アカデミー賞優秀主演女優賞を受賞。海外でも活動し、2012年に主演した映画『カラカラ』ではモントリオール映画祭で「世界に開かれた視点賞」と「観客賞」を受賞しました。最近ではドラマ『下町ロケット』や映画『WE ARE LITTLE ZOMBIES』に出演するなど、活躍が期待されます。
