Maria iniciou sua carreira em 1974 como Maria de Fátima de Oliveira em Fogo Sobre Terra e continua atuando até hoje. Atualmente, atua como Suzette no Pico da. Neblina. Em 1993, Maria ganhou Melhor Atriz no Festival de Brasília e também ganhou o Festival de Gramado de 2000 como Melhor Atriz. Aos 68 anos, ela ainda está em forma, saudável e bonita.
